RTI team attacked in Goa

Volunteers were holding road show in north Goa

PANAJI: The Right to Information Awareness road show which was to be held at Arambol market in Pernem taluk of north Goa on Thursday was cancelled after some miscreants attacked volunteers on Thursday evening.

Gujarat-based NGO Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel (MAGP) is currently holding a awareness campaign in various parts of Goa with the help of multimedia vehicle in association with Goa State Information Commission and Goa RTI Forum.

“The miscreants came to blows with the team of six volunteers including three women activists and a student volunteer after verbally abusing them for trying to conduct RTI awareness in their village,” Ganpat Kurtiker, Secretary RTI Forum told The Hindu on Thursday evening.

“There was one home guard present in the market who instigated the people against us and the crowd dispersed only when police arrived at the spot”, informed RTI expert Pankti Jog of MAGP, who leads the team.

“It is an unexpected move from Goan public, they need to understand the importance of RTI and must cooperate for the awareness of RTI act, also concerned authorities should look in the matter and investigate”, said Mr. Kurtiker.
