The absence of Government’s opposition to the bail application of a Tamil daily’s news editor, who was arrested on Wednesday for the publication of a report on film actors, could have been because of the mood of the film industry for compromise, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Saturday.

The daily had expressed regret for the report to which the industry had objected. Action was taken on the complaint filed by the film industry because the report was vulgar. The industry, which was satisfied over the arrest, was said to be of the opinion that no follow up action was required as the two sectors, film industry and the press, worked closely, the Chief Minister explained in a statement.
