‘Pasuvula Panduga’ in Tirupati

‘Pasuvula Panduga’, the local version of Jallikattu was observed at Arepalle Rangampeta village in Tirupati.

The event is conducted on the lines of the famous ‘Jallikattu’ of Madurai area in Tamil Nadu, but certainly on a low profile, both in terms of ferocity and public participation.

Roughly translated as "festival of cattle," in Pasuvula Panduga, the cattles are let out one by one with prize money tied to their horns. The participants have to run behind the cattle and snatch the prize money within the stipulated time and set boundary lines.

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated ₹4,200 crore for the Kumbh Mela being held in the ‘sangam’ city of Allahabad, which is over thrice the budget of the Maha Kumbh in 2013, making the mega pilgrimage perhaps the costliest ever.

“The UP government has allocated ₹4,200 crore for 2019 Kumbh Mela. The previous state government had spent around Rs 1,300 crore for the Maha Kumbh, which was held in 2013,” state Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal said.
