Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday said the Centre's order setting up the National Counter-Terrorism Centre should be withdrawn immediately in deference to the fears expressed by several States.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she said the “disturbing provisions” in the Home Ministry's office memorandum needed an in-depth analysis and consultation with all States.
This communication was in continuation of her Friday's letter voicing objections to the NCTC proposal.
Ms. Jayalalithaa also shared the concerns of the other Chief Ministers who had voiced their objections. She urged the Government of India to ensure that the objectionable memorandum, which is scheduled for implementation from March 1, was withdrawn immediately.
She wanted the Prime Minister to start consultations with the States immediately, keeping in view the fact that matters of Public Order and Police are in the State List of the Constitution.
