Will BJP president Amit Shah follow the precedent set by many leaders in his party like L.K. Advani and Bangaru Lakshman who resigned following allegations of corruption, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury asked on Sunday. He was reacting to the report published by news website The Wire on Mr. Shah’s son Jay Shah.

Mr. Yechury said the allegations are very serious and they need to be investigated. While the government was mum on the charges against its own members, it had no qualms targeting leaders of other parties, Mr. Yechury said.

His colleague Brinda Karat too called for an inquiry.

CPI leader D. Raja said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claims of making India corruption-free sounded hollow in the face of these allegations.

The AAP took a dig at the BJP, and said the only people who witnessed “vikas” (development) after the party took over in 2014 were their own leaders and family members.
