Vyapam case main accused arrested in Kanpur

Mr. Shivhare allegedly acted as a middleman and arranged for the impostors and dummy candidates.

In a major breakthrough, a key accused in the Vyapam scam Ramesh Shivhare has been nabbed in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the CBI.

Considered one of the “main accused” and wanted in many cases related to the the recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh, Shivhare was arrested from his residence in Kanpur’s Kalyanpur area on Tuesday night, police said.

Shivhare, who would run a coaching centre in Kanpur, is accused of arranging imposters and dummy candidates for examinations to Vyapam or the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examinations Board.

A native of Mahoba district of U.P., he has been evading authorities for two years and the Jabalpur police had even issued a reward on him. In 2014, the Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected his application for anticipatory bail.

Police retrieved four mobile phones, Rs. 94,000 cash, some cheque books and documents related to various examinations from him.
