Victims’ kin seek adequate compensation

Relatives of the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy on Monday took out a silent candle light march here in memory of the dear and near ones who passed away in the disaster that hit the city 30 years ago on the intervening night of December 2 and 3. A large number of activists from different parts of the country as also abroad marched with them as an expression of solidarity.

The gathering included representatives of several social activist groups from Tamil Nadu under a common banner ``Chennai for Bhopal.’’ Besides photographs of the victims, the participants carried placards seeking “adequate” compensation for all those affected by the gas leak, effective measures to bring the top managements of Dow Chemicals and Union Carbide to book and steps to dispose of the chemicals that are still lying around in the factory premises.
