Bharatiya Janata Party leader Varun Gandhi has filed a query under the RTI Act seeking details from the Finance Ministry of account holders with HSBC in Geneva. If the Ministry or the Central Board of Direct Taxes has a list of account holders, he has asked it to divulge the names.

Basis of information

However, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee recently said names of those who were unable to satisfactorily explain their bank holdings would be made public only at the stage of prosecution. Mr. Gandhi has also sought information on those who have been subjected to search and survey operations on the basis of information with the government.
