Two policemen were injured as militants hurled a grenade at a police check point in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

A police spokesman said a joint police and Army check point was established at Juhama, Baramulla for routine monitoring.

“At about 6:50 p.m., Two militants on a motorcycle approached from the opposite side and made an about turn on seeing the security personnel. They, then, hurled a grenade at the policemen,” said the spokesman. Two policemen received minor injuries in the attack. “The area has been cordoned off,” said the spokesman.

Braid theft

A team of government doctors and officials of the Jammu and Kashmir State Women Commission will meet women whose braids were allegedly cut in mysterious attacks “for clues” on the attacks as the issue has sparked hysteria across the Valley. “A team of doctors will soon meet the victims,” said CM Mehbooba Mufti on Monday.

Around 30 bids to cut women’s braids have been reported in the Kashmir Valley, especially in Kulgam and Shopian, in the past one month. Earlier limited to rural pockets, three fresh cases have been reported from Srinagar’s Hazratbal, Nowgam and Batamaloo areas. “There seems the hand of criminal elements which are bent on creating a chaos in society. Unfortunately, the police remain clueless, which fuels speculations,” SWC chairperson Nayeema Mehjoor said.
