Tushar Mehta appointed as Solicitor General of India

Senior advocate Tushar Mehta has been appointed as Solicitor General of India till June 2020. The post of Solicitor General was vacant since October 2017.

Currently the Additional SG, Mr. Mehta has been a trusted aide to the BJP president Amit Shah for more than a decade. He was the main legal advisor for Mr. Shah during encounter cases in Gujarat, particularly in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.

He was appointed as Additional SG after the NDA government took over in 2014. Earlier, he was Additional Advocate General in Gujarat High Court.
