Passengers on board the Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express had a narrow escape on Tuesday morning after railway staff detected a crack on one of the wheels of a coach as the train was entering the Adra station. The coach was later detached.

According to South Eastern Railway authorities, the crack was detected by two staff members of the Adra division in an AC 2-tier coach (A1).

“The defect was detected by Narayan Prasad and Laxman Sahu, who were conducting ‘rolling in examination' of the train while it was entering the station,” a statement released by SER authorities said.

The personnel immediately informed the higher authorities and following an inspection, it was decided to detach the coach.

“The passengers of A1 coach were accommodated in other coaches. The train left at 10.25 a.m.,” the statement added.

SER General Manager Vinay Mittal announced a cash reward of Rs. 5000 each for Mr. Prasad and Mr. Sahu.
