‘They wrote a will in favour of Vidhie’

The CBI charge sheet in the Sheena Bora murder case revolves around the possible financial motives of the accused. Peter, the latest person to be arrested in the case, has also been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy.

According to the CBI, Peter knew of Sheena’s murder, but tried to mislead his son Rahul about her presence in the U.S. Peter was on Friday remanded in CBI custody till November 23. The CBI also questioned Rahul for nearly five hours at their office.

Vidhie’s interest was also the reason why Sanjeev entered the conspiracy. With Sheena out of the way, “his own daughter would get financial benefits and properties of Indrani and Peter,” the charge sheet states. The CBI’s probe has revealed that Indrani and Peter executed a will on January 7, 2011, in favour of Vidhie, in which she was made the legal heir of some properties. Indrani made it a point to make her decision and her reasons known to Sheena.

On March 8, 2012, she sent an email to Sheena via her son Mikhail Bora. “This is to confirm that we have changed the will and disinherited you from our property and assets as a sign of our disapproval of your relationship with Rahul. I hope we have made our stand clear and you will be wise enough not to cause any more problems than you already have.”

Rahul and Sheena met in 2008 and became close friends. In 2008 itself, Sheena told Rahul that she was Indrani’s daughter, not sister. She also used Mikhail to send an email threatening Sheena that she would be disinherited her of the ancestral property in Guwahati, the charge sheet says. Earlier in 2004, Indrani made a will in favour of Sheena for a flat in Delhi. The will also made Indrani the absolute owner. Indrani and Peter later sold the property.

Bitter email exchanges

The charge sheet cites bitter email exchanges between the mother and daughter to suggest a strained relationship. “My problem is only with Indrani Mukerjea, which is personal. You could make Indrani understand that bad mouthing me or Rahul won’t solve anything,” Sheena wrote in an email to Peter on April 2, 2011.

In another email to her mother, Sheena wrote: “You should have either not given birth to me or NOT left me with your parents. Why didn’t you take me with you? All of this has left me really hurt and devastated once again. I am very happy and safe with Rahul. Shouldn’t that be the most important thing for parents/loved ones? You did whatever gave you happiness in life. Even I deserve the same. Why are you upset because of it? I am your daughter. I have some of you in me. I will find my way through.”

Indrani also used the lure of money to rope in her driver Shyamvar Rai into the murder conspiracy. He was given Rs. 1.25 lakh through Indrani’s personal secretary Kajal Sharma and trained in using Skype, on which the conspiracy was planned.

Indrani conspired in her daughter’s murder with the help of Sanjeev and Rai. The trio abducted Sheena on April 24, 2012, along with other co-accused persons and killed her in a car. They then burnt the body on April 25 on the Khopoli-Pen Road in Raigad district. They also attempted to kill Mikhail.
