The Modi kurta is 'in' now

Even though politicians have for long tried to reproduce the people they represent in the clothes they wear, India's new Prime Minister Narendra Modi has managed to create an everlasting image with his kurtas. And what's more, he has gone global.

"Literally and strategically," says the New York Times in its article, "Modi stands out."

In a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Russian premier's famed workout, the Washington Post says, "The world's new fashion icon... no, it's not Vladimir Putin — despite his fitness regimen."

"The Prime Minister's signature look comprises a traditional kurta made of either cotton or silk, usually paired with a vest," the Post goes on to say.
