June 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

Indian Medical Association president M. Vinod Kumar Gupta said that umpteen people were injured in road accidents and several pregnant women dying every year due to the non-availability of their blood group during emergency surgeries.

Therefore, voluntary organisations should come forward to encourage youth and healthy persons to donate blood. Everyone aged between 18 years and 60 years can donate blood three times in a year, he said while addressing the blood donation camp organised by IMA, in connection with International Doctors’ Day, here on Sunday.

Inaugurating the camp, District Medical and Health Officer Basweswari said that at least three lives could be saved by donating blood once in three months. Every healthy person can donate blood, she said.

Dr. Basweswari, Dr. K. Subash, Dr. Santhosekumar and Dr. Raghavendra, paramedics working in different hospitals and medical representatives donated blood on the occasion.

Project coordinator Dr. R. Vidyasagar and the IMA former president Dr. D.L.N. Swami were present.
