Will conduct tests if FSSAI sends samples: CFTRI

June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - MYSURU:

A day after the Mysuru-based Central Food Technological Research Laboratory (CFTRI) declined to accept Maggi samples for analysis citing “jurisdictional hiccup”, the premier food technology lab on Thursday announced to test samples if they come through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

“We are ready to test the samples if they are submitted through an appropriate route. Our institute is bound to conduct analysis of food samples and we never refuse them provided they are submitted through a proper authority,” said CSIR-CFTRI Director Ram Rajashekaran. Addressing a hurriedly convened press conference here, he said, “Only in special cases, there is a provision to bypass the predefined route provided a direction comes from a Parliamentary Committee or from New Delhi. We don’t want to override the law.”
