We will stand by farmers: Uttam

October 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - NARASAMPET (WARANGAL DT.):

At a massive public meeting organised by the Congress, leaders called upon farmers not to commit suicide but pressurise the State government to heed their demands, here on Friday.

All the senior leaders of the party, led by N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mallu Batti Vikramarka, K. Jana Reddy and others arrived in the town as part of their ongoing Rythu Bharosa Yatra.

“We have questioned the government on farmer suicides. We have been suspended and thrown out of the Assembly for supporting distressed farmers. The government has deceived people by going back on its promises,” they said.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress would stand by farmers and fight with the State government for a one-time loan waiver. The government should initiate steps to stop farmer suicides. “We want the government to announce Rs. 1 lakh loan waiver immediately,” they said.

The TRS government has evaded discussion on the agricultural crisis in the State. Former Minister D.K. Aruna, Baswaraju Saraiah, D. Sridhar Babu, Jeevan Reddy, DCC president N. Rajender Reddy, former MP P. Balram Naik and others found fault with the State government for winding up the Assembly session earlier than scheduled. They said the Assembly was not only meant for the treasury benches but Opposition MLAs as well to debate on peoples’ issues, particularly the ongoing agrarian crisis.
