The engineers of Kaleshwaram project are making arrangements to start pumping of water from Sundilla barrage to Yellampally barrage through Goliwada pump house with the operation of one motor to begin with from Monday.

Engineer-in-Chief of the project N. Venkateshwarlu along with other engineers of the project and those belonging to the work agency Megha Engineering inspected the preparations at Goliwada pump house and went around the fore-bay of the pump house. With the commissioning of fourth motor of Kasipet pump house linked to Annaram barrage on Thursday night, the water storage in Sundilla barrage crossed 2.5 tmc ft capacity at 7 pm on Friday.

The water level in Sundilla was recorded at 124.35 meters against the full reservoir level of 130 meters. According to the engineers, water being pumped from Annaram was expected to reach the fore-bay of Goliwada pump house by Sunday night. It requires storage of about 5.5 tmc ft water in Sundilla or 127 meters of level to start pumping to Yellampally.

Similarly, the water storage in Medigadda barrage was recorded at 5.02 tmc ft at 7 pm on Friday and the level at 95.3 meters against the FRL of 100 meters.

First flood in Jurala

Meanwhile, Jurala project in Jogulamba-Gadwal district started received first flood of the season from Thursday night with the impact of rains in the catchment areas of river Krishna in its immediate upstream in Karnataka. About 670 cusecs of inflows into Jurala were recorded on Friday. However, the chances of release of flood from Almatti to the downstream are getting delayed with the inflows into the reservoir being recorded at less than 12,000 cusecs on Friday.

Almatti and Narayanpur reservoirs require another 14 tmc ft water to discharge flood downstream towards Jurala. Water is being released to the command area under both the projects for the last two weeks.
