Imagine enjoying a panoramic view of water gushing from the flood gates of the Nagarjunasagar dam, or spotting an animal in the surrounding forest cover.

All this is now made possible, with the installation of a new watch tower-cum-view point, standing at an elevation of 1050 feet above sea level and 5 km before reaching the project site on the Hyderabad- Nagarjunasagar road.

As part of promoting eco-tourism around this point, the Telangana Forest Department inaugurated the facility in the Nellikal Forest block on Saturday.

According to Amrabad Tiger Reserve Field Director M. C. Pargaien, the tower also facilitates monitoring wildlife activity in the reserve area, protecting natural resources and assisting in emergency management.

The watch tower is about 3 km from the main road and is connected to it with a 200-metre-walking track and other basic amenities for visitors.

Tourists who climbed atop the tower after the inauguration were awestruck at the first view of the vast landscape and the dam.

Appropriate safety measures were in place for visitors, officials said. The watch tower at Nagarjuna Sagar is second such facility, the first being Octopus that was opened by the Forest Department at Srisailam last week.
