‘Use ceramic pipes in the construction of ISLs’

October 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - ADILABAD:

The Telangana Stoneware Glazed Pipe (SWG) Manufacturers Association on Wednesday demanded that the State government use ceramic pipes in the construction of individual sanitary latrines (ISLs) in the State. The Association said such a move would resuscitate the ceramic pipe industry in the State, which is currently in doldrums.

Talking to The Hindu , the president of the association, P. Vara Prasad Rao, said ceramic pipes were far more durable and eco-friendly than the plastic and fibre pipes proposed to be used in ISLs. “Ceramic pipes are non-corrosive and leakage proof as they are safe from damage caused by rats,” he pointed out.

“When HMWSSB and urban Municipal Corporations in Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Municipalities in Nalgonda and Miryalaguda can use the SWG pipes, why should plastic pipes be used in rural areas?” he questioned.
