Speakers at a meeting organised by Ambedkarites at Indira Park here on Wednesday called for a united struggle by political parties and organisations to dethrone the anti-SC and anti-weaker section government headed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The hugely-attended meeting, held under tight security, focussed on the desecration of an Ambedkar statue at Panjgutta circle here and the failure of Mr. Rao to participate in Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations.
Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti president Manda Krishna recalled that Mr. Rao was the only Chief Minister who never garlanded the statue of Ambedkar in office. For that matter, Mr. Rao did not do so ever since he formed TRS.
Mr. Krishna said there was every reason to bring down the TRS government as Mr. Rao went back on his promises to make an SC leader Chief Minister, install 125-ft statue of Ambedkar and distribute three acres of land to SCs. He also said the injustices meted out to the SCs would be taken to the notice of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, national SC/ST Commission Chairman and President Ramnath Kovind.
Telugu Desam - Telangana president L. Ramana said he was prepared for a supreme sacrifice if a new statue of Ambedkar was not installed at Panjagutta. The TDP politburo member, Ravula Chandrasekhar Rao, said Mr. Rao may be a voracious reader, but has never read the Constitution.
Telangana Jana Samiti president M. Kodandaram said this was an ideal time to launch a movement against the TRS government as the public ire following the desecration of the statue was high.
Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao highlighted the arrogance of Mr. Rao while a former Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah blamed Mr. Rao for deceiving public with false assurances.
BJP MLC N. Ramchander Rao said autocratic rule, like the one unleashed by Mr. Rao, would not work long in a democracy. CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and CPI-ML (New Democracy) leader Goverdhan also spoke.
