Unable to bear trauma, raped minor sets herself ablaze in Anantapur District

August 04, 2014 05:11 pm | Updated 11:42 pm IST - ANANTAPUR:

In a ghastly incident, a thirteen year old girl from the Roddam mandal of Anantapur district, attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze on Monday afternoon, unable to bear the indignity of being raped.

The girl was allegedly raped by one Gajula Kristappa (50) in her house itself on Sunday, when the girl’s parents were away from home.

When the girl eventually mustered courage to tell her parents about the incident, her parents are believed to have scolded her for keeping it secret for so long.

Unable to bear the trauma of the indignity of rape coupled with the scolding of her parents, the girl, according to her relatives, set herself ablaze.

The girl was soon taken to the Penukonda government hospital where she was administered first aid and referred to the Anantapur government hospital, allegedly with over fifty percent burns.

However, the Anantapur hospital too does not have the required facilities to handle such cases and referred the case to the Osmania general hospital or NIMS in Hyderabad.
