The district police have arrested a CPI-ML Janashakthi district committee secretary and a militant and recovered fire arms a pistol, 15 live rounds of 9 mm, ₹ 44,000 cash, mobile phones and a motorcycle from their possession.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Friday, Superintendent of Police Rahul Hegde B. K. said that on credible information about the Janashakthi Naxalites entering the district and planning to take up recruitment and resort to extortions in view of ensuing elections, the special police parties were formed and launched the vehicle checking and other operations.

On Friday, during the vehicle checking at Thangalapalli police station limits, the police nabbed Janashakthi DCS Jakkula Babu alias Kuntaiah alias Babaiah (38) resident of China Lingapur village of Thangalapalli mandal and militant Tikka Srikanth (28) of Ramannapalle village.

When the police searched them, they recovered a sophisticated Mauser automatic, 15 live rounds of 9 mm, ₹ 44,000 cash, cellular phones, motorcycle from their possession. Jakkula Babu, who had been evading the police for over a decade, is reported to have confessed that the weapon was provided by Janashakthi State committee leader Vishwanath alias Vishwam. Several cases were registered against him, including a recent one of extortion lodged by an irrigation contractor. The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody.
