Farmers in the state do not need loan waiver or free power provided the State Government came up with long-term plan on irrigation projects, opined Vedire Sriram, advisor to Union Ministry for Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation project.
He was making a power-point presentation at a meeting organised by Joint Action Committee and Telangana Intellectuals Forum here on Monday.
Elaborating on optimum utilisation of Godavari waters, Mr. Sriram said that Telangana received good rainfall and it would help recharge ground water level. The State Government should also plan properly.
For instance, the Kanthanapalli Project shelved by the Government helps tap 45 tmc while the newly proposed one at Tupakulagudem taps just 15 tmc. Similarly sound planning is needed in executing all irrigation projects in the State, he pointed out asking people to question the State Government on its decisions.
Telangana JAC Chairman M. Kodandaram said the undivided Warangal district area will benefit least from the irrigation projects proposed by the State Government. “This is just the beginning. Soon we will also organise a round-table conference on the issue,” he said adding that it was the State Government that was obstructing development for political gains.
The JAC would mobilise farmers and lead a movement against unsound decisions of the State Government on irrigation projects, he added.
