Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao has reiterated the Chief Minister’s promise that his party will not seek votes if it fails to provide drinking water to every household in the State.
The Minister was here to lay the foundation stone for the water grid project on Saturday. The State government will be spending Rs. 35,000 crore to lay a 1.5 lakh km pipeline, construct 19 new reservoirs and 65 water treatment plants across Telangana.
Four reservoirs
The project aims at providing tap water connection to every household. A total of seven lakh families will get safe drinking water in the district. Four reservoirs – Paleru, Ramappa, Ghanpur, Chalivagu and Bheemghal – will be used for the project.
“Very soon, the government will release the Assembly constituency-wise and mandal-wise map of water supply,” Mr. Rama Rao said.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister said that women need not go long distances to fetch water. In Parkal constituency, the project is being taken up with a budget of Rs. 270 crore.
False propaganda
He said the Central government was not cooperating with the State government. BJP leaders have been spreading false propaganda against the TRS government. The allotment of officers was delayed by one year; the bifurcation of the High Court kept pending and Mr. Modi has not found time to visit Telangana so far.
“Galli Naidu and Delhi Naidu (referring to N. Chandrababu Naidu and M. Venkaiah Naidu) are playing cheap tricks that could be detrimental to the interests of Telangana people,” he said.
On the recent encounter, Mr. Rama Rao said the TRS and the government were committed to the socio-economic development of all sections of society. The same was the agenda of the Maoist party as well.
