Anticipating heavy rush of farmers at counters to distribute cheques as part of investment support programme for agriculture, the State government has decided to issue tokens to the beneficiaries in advance indicating the counters which they are assigned.

About 300 farmers will be assigned to every counter and they will be issued tokens containing the counter numbers, a day ahead of the distribution, a release after a meeting of Agriculture Secretary C. Parthasarathi with bankers on Thursday said.

He informed bankers that the government had deposited ₹4,157 crore in banks for distribution to farmers through cheques. The balance amount required for the purpose would be deposited before the scheme is launched. The bankers were asked to ensure that farmers are able to encash the cheques without any difficulty immediately after they take them.
