This cart runs on 12V batteries

Engineering students from GITAM University, Hyderabad, have designed an ‘Eco Cart’ at the GITAM Science and Activities Centre (GUSAC), which was inaugurated on Thursday at the campus here by GITAM School of Technology Director N. Siva Prasad .

The ‘Eco Cart’ runs with the energy of four 12 volts batteries with the support of an alter, which address the fluctuation, team leader P. Sarath Kumar said . Some components – alloy wheels and the 12 horse power motor – were bought online at subsidised rates, he added.

‘Killer switch’

“It is a must to wear the seat belt to run the Eco Cart, otherwise the car will stop. Similarly, we designed a ‘killer switch’ to avoid accidents. Once we press this switch, all parts of the car stop functioning,” Sarath explained.
