To draw more tourists to Warangal, the authorities have come up with a plan that would help them make the district a sought-after tourist destination.
As per the plan, the environs around historical monuments are being painted aesthetically. The front walls of about 200 houses on either side of the road leading to the main gate of the fort to Kush Mahal are being painted and the walls tell the stories of Kakatiya rulers and their architecture.
District Collector Amrapali Kata is keen on changing the way tourists look at the fort. In a similar move last year, all the compound walls of government offices along the main highways of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet were painted with different themes.
This was done as part of the city beautification project.
Once the painting work is done, the Warangal fort area would wear a new look, a true delight for both its residents and tourists. The owners of the houses were asked for permission to paint the walls, said District Tourism Consultant P. Aravind. Artists submitted their sketches which would adorn the walls and got them approved by the Collector. About 25 professional painters from Warangal and fine arts students from JNTU-Hyderabad have been tasked with the painting work. It was the same team that worked on street art in Hyderabad.
