While farmers across the State are struggling to cope with crop losses due to unseasonal rains, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is busy planning for local body elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat D. K. Aruna observed on Saturday.
She charged the TRS with using farmers as a vote bank and cited the example of rolling out of Rythu Bandhu just before the poll phase and said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao even now was is busy drawing up election strategy.
Speaking to reporters at the party office here on Saturday, she pointed that there was time for the completion of the tenure of zilla parishads and the election schedule for the Lok Sabha was not yet complete, but the government is gearing up for local body elections.
“KCR knows well that the results will not be favourable in the local bodies, hence he has advanced the polls, like the Assembly elections. TRS is craving for power,” she said.
‘Mind games’
Repeated statements by TRS party leaders that that they would win all the zilla parishads in the State is “just a mind game,” Ms. Aruna said.
Talking about the government’s proposal for reforms in the Revenue Department, she asked: “By introducing which law can this emperor of corruption (KCR) be changed?”
The huge election expenditure by TRS is just one example. Ms. Aruna also alleged that TRS supremo Mr. Rao’s remarks against certain departments was his vendetta for the party’s defeat in MLC elections.
Strengthening the BJP, by publicising schemes of the Centre at village-level remains her priority, she said.
