Amid spree of complaints on the non-functioning EVMs, close to 9% voting was registered in the first two hours across Telangana.
According to information received by election officials, 8.97% polling was reported till 9 am.
The process was, however, marred by a series of complaints that EVMs did not function in several polling stations.
The situation can be gauged from the fact that polling in the booth where Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and his wife Vimala cast their votes commenced almost half-an-hour late.
There were also complaints about inadequate lighting in the voting compartments posing problems to voters in identifying the names of the candidates for whom they wanted to cast their votes.
Several Ministers, actors and bureaucrats turned up at the polling stations right at the time of commencement of voting and exercised their franchise.
Long queues were seen in front of polling stations with youth, especially the first time voters turning up in good numbers.
However, reports indicated that enthusiastic voters who thronged the polling stations returned without casting their votes on account of problems with the EVMs.
