The State Government appears to be landed in a piquant situation insofar as the implementation of its sheep and goat distribution programme is concerned.
The constitution of task force consisting of officials from the animal husbandry, marketing, commercial taxes, vigilance and other departments to check the irregularities apparently could not check the reported “recycling”, the process where beneficiaries are showing same set of cattle to inspecting officials in some districts. Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav who is constantly monitoring the programme is apparently upset at the frequency of occurrence of such recycling.
He had asked the collectors of Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Khammam, Bahdradri-Kothagudem to personally inspect the animals handed over to the beneficiaries and take stringent action against those found guilty of indulging in recycling. In the process, the officials were asked not to spare those in the administration too if they are found guilty. Hopefully, the instructions akin to setting our home right before pointing finger at others, will work this time around.
Targeting one,
hitting another
Senior Telugu Desam Party leader in Telangana, Motkupalli Narsimhulu, is known for his satires and curt remarks when it comes to political attacks.
However, one such attempt by him targeted at party leader A. Revanth Reddy, who has been hogging headlines following the news of his reported plans to join the Congress, has ultimately ended up ‘hurting’ national general secretary of party and a Minister in Andhra Pradesh Cabinet N. Lokesh.
Speaking to newspersons at his residence after walking out of the TDP-Telangana's politburo meeting on Friday over the Revanth Reddy’s issue, Mr. Narsimhulu tried to go all-out against Mr. Reddy alleging that the vote share of TDP in GHMC area had gone down to 10% from 22% earlier, which resulted in the party’s strength going down to one from 45, thanks to Mr. Reddy’s campaigning.
He, however, appears to have forgotten the fact that it was Mr. Lokesh who led the TDP’s campaign in GHMC elections in 2016 and Mr. Reddy played only a second fiddle. Unable to digest the remarks which ultimately reflected on Mr. Lokesh, some senior leaders close to him were understood to have expressed their dismay at Mr. Narsimhulu’s misadventure.
Revanth ‘bid’ to join Congress not first time
Revanth Reddy’s likely entry into Congress has created ripples in the political circles but it isn’t the first time that Mr. Reddy has made an attempt to join the Congress.
Revanth, who is the son-in-law of senior Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy’s younger brother, approached Mr. Reddy seeking a Congress ticket from any constituency in Mahabubnagar. Apparently, Mr. Reddy refused to help citing his inability to intervene in distribution of tickets or influence the party leadership in Revanth’s favour.
Mr. Jaipal Reddy is said to have told him that he would not seek favour for his own son and how can he lobby for his brother’s son-in-law. Interestingly, Mr. Reddy even now denies his role in Revanth’s efforts to enter Congress. Neither Revanth has come nor the leadership has sought his views so far, he said recently in an informal chat with a few reporters.
