Students of the Agriculture Engineering College located at the district headquarters staged a dharna , demanding that the government recognise their qualification and generate employment opportunities.

The students claimed that there was no recruitment after 1991 in the agriculture engineering wing from the government whereas neighbouring States like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka were appointing agriculture engineering students to aid progress in farm mechanisation. They said that the students’ services could be used in farm mechanisation, soil and water conservation, watershed management, command area development, micro-irrigation and other technical wings of farming. Finally, the police intervened and pacified students with a promise to take the issue to the notice of the concerned officials.
