Student commits suicide when pestered for tuition fee

A Class 10 student reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train after he was pestered by management of a private school to pay the school fees on Wednesday night.

Though, the incident took place on Wednesday night, it came to light onThursday night following the identification of the unidentified body on the railway track by the Peddapalli police.

Peddapalli Inspector P Prashanth Reddy said that student Edula Santosh Reddy, (15), a native of Abbapur village in Dharmaram mandal was studying 10th stndard in Brilliant Model School in Julapalli mandal headquarters.

On Wednesday, the school correspondent Satyam asked all the students, who had not paid the school fees to stand up. When several students stood up, Santosh was sitting.

At this juncture, the school correspondent identified him and asked him to stand up along with seven other students, who had not paid the school fee. Later, all the students were asked to stand outside for half an hour and warned that they would not be allowed to write their quarterly examination scheduled from Saturday.

Santosh came to his home for lunch and took the cellular phone of his cousin, who resides in the neighbourhood and recorded his statement on the mobile phone that he was humiliated in the school due to non-payment of school fees.

He stated that he would leave this world as he was unable to study due to poverty and left the phone in the house and also a letter stating about his video recording.

During the period, his father Srinivas Reddy returned from fields and asked his son why he was going early to school. But, he did not tell his father about the school fee issue. He later arrived at Julapalli and from there to Peddapalli railway station in autorickshaw. He committed suicide by jumping in front of moving train on Wednesday night.

The railway police kept the body at mortuary as unidentified dead body. In the meantime, the parents of the boy lodged a complaint with Dharmaram police about the missing student on Thursday. Later, the parents chanced upon the letter written by Satosh about his suicide plans in the house.

They immediately alerted the police after watching the video clippings. The parents identified the body on Friday and took it to their village. The police registered a case under IPC 306 section and also criminal case against the school management.
