The State government has decided to constitute two new districts — Narayanpet and Mulugu — in the interest of better administration and overall development of the areas covered under these districts.

The two districts will be carved out from the existing Mahabubnagar and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts respectively and their creation would take the total number of districts in the State from 31 to 33.

The government has issued gazette notifications in this regard calling for objections from the stakeholders concerned within 30 days. Interestingly, separate notifications dated December 31 was released late on Wednesday night.

According to the notification, Mulugu district will have Mulugu, Venkatapur, Govindaraopet, Tadvai, Eturunagaram, Kannaigudem, Mangapet, Venkatapuram and Wajedu mandals under its purview.

The district would become an exclusive tribal district as almost all the mandals under its jurisdiction are located in the Agency area.

Narayanpet district will have Narayanpet, Damargidda, Dhanwada, Marikal, Kosgi, Maddur, Utkoor, Narwa, Makhtal, Naganoor, Krishna and Kollinkonda mandals under its jurisdiction.

Senior officials said the bill creating the new districts would be sent for the assent of President as they should be covered under the new zonal system which received the Presidential assent recently.

Presidential Assent

The process would, however, not take much time as the areas forming part of Mulugu have been notified under Kaleshwaram Zone (Zone 1) and those covered under Narayanpet district form part of the Jogulamba zone (Zone 7).

The creation of the new districts would mandate their notification in the schedule of the new zonal system and hence, the consent of the President, officials said.
