State sanctions Rs. 3 cr. to revive Peddacheruvu

The Peddacheruvu (Ameenpur lake), located on the outskirts of this village in Patancheru mandal of Medak district and spread over 100 acres, will be revived soon.

The State government had sanctioned Rs. 3 crore to make one of the most beautiful tank bunds, which is rich in flora and fauna. The restoration of the tank will be taken up in the second phase of Mission Kakatiya.

The lake is home to many migratory and resident birds.

In addition, there is a huge list of flora and fauna that is found in and around the lake.

There is a huge range of rich biodiversity, including shrubs, creepers, medicinal flora, trees, animals, reptiles, birds, insect and microbes.

This was identified by Tejdeep Kaur, the Director General of Telangana Special Protection Force (TSPF), who worked on the tank for the past three months and identified the importance of the tank, has decided to develop the tank and she roped in some NGOs and others in this effort.

As part of tree plantation scheme ‘Manohar Ameenpur’ was formally launched on Sunday by Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao, MP K. Prabhakar Reddy and MLA G. Mahipal Reddy. As many as 4,000 saplings were planted on a single day giving a push in that direction.

“Even we did not know that the tank is so rich in flora and fauna in addition housing so many migratory birds, different varieties of fish, amphibians, butterflies, flamingos. We have decided to develop this tank as mini tank bund on the lines of other tanks such as Saki, Timma Samudram and Raya Samudram, which are being developed with a funding of Rs. 12 crore. We are sanctioning Rs. 3 crore for the tank works. One MLD treatment plant would also be established to treat the polluted water that is coming to the lake in addition to clearing feeder channels from Maktameedi Kunta, at Serlingampally,” said Mr. Harish Rao, while speaking to reporters at the tank after planting saplings.

The Minister also directed the officials of Irrigation, HMDA and Revenue Departments to prepare a detailed project report and submit it in a week. Superintendent of Police B. Sumathi, Joint Collector P. Venkatarami Reddy and others were present.
