UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi stoked the Telangana emotion on her first visit to the youngest State relating it to a mother's desire to see her child after a long time and how happy she feels.

At the thanks-giving meeting organised at Medchal by the Telangana Congress on Thursday, Sonia however said she was dejected to see the child in a bad state as the promises remain unfulfilled.

She asked whether the reasons for which a new State was formed were realised.

Water, employment and resources for which Telangana dreamt were not achieved by the present government, she remarked.

Sonia shared the dais with the party president and her son Rahul Gandhi along with the People’s Front leaders. Putting up a united show with the alliance partners, the well attended meeting saw Sonia gave the credit to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi for the new State.

Ms Gandhi speaking in Hindi continued in an emotional tone saying if kids are not properly nourished, they face problems in the future and that’s what Telanagana is witnessing after four years of TRS rule.

Farmers are committing suicide, students and youth are dejected with the unkept promises and the TRS has even betrayed the farmers amending the Land Acquisition Act brought by the UPA government. The self-help groups of Telangana were a role model for the entire country and I used to proudly refer the same in other parts of the country. Even they are deceived by the TRS government, she said.

However, there is an opportunity for people to bring the child on the right track and people should use their vote to get rid of the present government, she said.

Ms. Gandhi also touched upon the ‘family rule’ saying only a few people have benefited and said Congress is a party for all sections. The manifesto of Telangana Congress reflects that, she said.

She ended her 15-minute speech appealing to people to vote for the Congress and the alliance partners which will provide participative governance.
