As part of the State government’s endeavour to ensure economic empowerment of Golla and Kuruma shepherd communities, sheep units worth about ₹143.97 crore had been distributed to 15,357 beneficiaries under the subsidised sheep distribution scheme in the district so far, said Minister for Animal Husbandry T. Srinivas Yadav.

In an effort to encourage the members of the shepherd communities tread the path of financial self-reliance, as many as 327 sheep development cooperative societies with an estimated 33,286 members had been formed across the district of Khammam, he said.

Addressing the Independence Day main function after unfurling the national flag here on Thursday, he said that mobile veterinary clinics were sanctioned one each to all the Assembly constituencies to ensure veterinary services to livestock. “This facility can be accessed through toll-free number 1962,” he said.

“On the welfare front, the State government is implementing a slew of landmark schemes providing financial support as well as social security to a wide spectrum of beneficiaries, including farmers, physically challenged and senior citizens, besides widows, in the form of monthly pensions and other forms of aid,” he asserted.

“Of the total 8,947 double bedroom house units sanctioned, as many as 6,459 have already been grounded, 2,506 completed and 750 handed over to beneficiaries in the district,” the minister added.
