Setback for Maoists as top leader is arrested

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KHAMMAM:

The Maoists appears to have suffered a setback with the reported arrest of Khammam district committee secretary A Shiva Reddy alias Kiran by the Andhra Pradesh police in East Godavari district on Monday.

Kiran, who was wanted in various cases registered under Venkatapuram circle limits in the district, was understood to have been apprehended by the AP police from a shelter in Nellipaka mandal, where he was reportedly undergoing treatment in the neighbouring State on Sunday night.

Kiran, who is also the Telangana State committee member of the CPI (Maoist), hails from Narlapur village in Tadwai mandal of Warangal district, sources said.

CPI (Maoist) Khammam district committee members A Bhaskar alias Sukhdev, and his wife Shyamala alias Sunita had surrendered before the Warangal district police in April this year.
