Muslims urged Telangana BC Commission Chairperson B.S. Ramulu to provide basic amenities like schools, drinking water, permanent housing, and 12% reservation to children of minority communities in educational institutes and public sector employment, here on Friday.
Upon his arrival to the town, Mr. Ramulu visited Nizam Nagar where the residents sought a permanent drainage network to protect them from gushing flood water during monsoon. They also sought another government school as the existing one was not enough.
At Athar Rahman colony, the residents demanded a hospital and school. Residents of Painters’ colony complained about insufficient supply of drinking water and lack of toilets.
Interacting with street vendors, Mr. Ramulu enquired about their economic condition. At Vengal Rao Nagar, residents felicitated the BC Commission Chairperson.
Deputy Mayor Fayeem and Congress minority leaders submitted a memorandum to Mr. Ramulu requesting him to take the issue of 12% reservation to children of minority communities in educational institutes and public sector employment up with the government.
Mr. Ramulu said the commission was studying the socio-economic status of all the religious minorities in the State and would submit a detailed report to the government soon.
“The commission is also looking into the recommendations of the Sudheer Committee on 12% reservation for minorities,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the BC Commission Chairperson visited minority localities in Kamareddy district headquarters.
