Preliminary inquiries at the accident spot at Indrapalanagar in Ramannapet mandal of Nalgonda on the Bhongir-Chityal road reveal that the bus belonging to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) was moving ‘extremely slow’.
It was rash driving by the lorry driver that led to the death of 10 people, including a baby girl and the bus driver K.Y. Reddy (46) had an extremely good record as a safe driver, said TSRTC Managing Director G.V. Ramana Rao.
He said Ministers P. Mahender Reddy (Transport), Nayani Narsimha Reddy (Home) and G. Jagadheeshwar Reddy (Power) who were at the accident site announced an ex gratia of Rs. 4 lakh (Rs. 2 lakh each from the TSRTC and State government), to the families of the deceased. He added that the 10 injured were undergoing treatment at the Kamineni Hospital in Narketpalli. There were instructions from the government that they were to be given the best of medicare. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao spoke to the Ministers over phone after they had reached the spot.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy visited the spot and expressed his condolences to the family members of the deceased. He wished the injured a speedy recovery and said Congress cadres in the district were asked to provide whatever assistance they could.
Others who also rushed to the site included Communist Party of India’s Telangana Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and party MLA from Deverakonda, R. Ravinder Kumar.
