An intense spell of rain on Thursday night led to stagnation of rainwater on the premises of the JK opencast project in Yellendu, disrupting coal production in the OCP on Friday.

According to sources, heavy rain battered Yellendu overnight, leading to water-logging in several low-lying areas in the coal town.

Rainwater accumulated on the premises of the JK OCP in the early hours of the day, hampering production activity in the mine.

The staff concerned drained out stagnant rainwater from the entrance of the OCP using pumpsets. Subsequently, the coal production resumed at the OCP in the afternoon, sources added.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong gales disrupted power supply in several villages in Kusumanchi, Nelakondapalli and Tirumalayapalem mandals in Khammam division in the small hours of Friday.

High velocity winds reportedly uprooted a few electricity poles and snapped transmission lines at Rajeshwarapuram in Nelakondapalli mandal, plunging the village and its adjoining habitations into darkness in the wee hours of the day.

Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: The temperatures have come down across the district on Friday evening due to heavy rain at several places.

In the district headquarters, alone the rain continued for more than an hour. The rainfall was registered at Siddipet, Narsapur and other areas.

It was reported that two cattle died of lightning at Gudemagadda tanda in Narsapur mandal.
