As many as 11,995 personnel, including medical and para-medical staff and 66 mobile teams and two boats were pressed into service to implement the three-day Pulse Polio drive, which commenced in the entire district on Sunday.

A total of 2,843 booths consisting of transit booths were set up across the district to administer polio drops to the targeted 2,74,925 children in the district.

Two boats were used by the mobile teams to reach out to tribal children living in two riverside villages – Tippagutta under Regalla PHC limits in Kothagudem division and another island village in Dummugudem mandal, sources added. Personnel of mobile teams trekked hilly terrain in Wajedu, Venkatapuram and Aswaraopet mandals.

Collector K. Ilambarithi launched the pulse polio campaign at the Government High School near Cheruvubazaar in Khammam.

Karimnagar Special Correspondent adds: Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad launched the Pulse Polio programme by administering the vaccine to the children at the Urban Health Centre at Buttirajaram Colony in Karimnagar on Sunday.

She said that the Medical and Health Department had opened 2,840 booths in the district. She said that the medical teams would conduct door-to-door survey on Monday and Tuesday.

Nizamabad Special Correspondent adds: Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy launched the programme in Varni mandal.

Mobile polio centres were arranged and special centres were set up at bus and railway stations to administer drops.
