Superintendent of Police S. Chandrashekar Reddy flagged off the police interceptor vehicle here on Thursday. The vehicles given by the State Government to all districts cost Rs.30 lakh each.
Speaking on the occasion the SP said that the vehicle equipped with sophisticated cameras-route camera and speed camera and a breath analyzer to find whether anyone was driving the vehicle after consuming alcohol would be very useful to police machinery in maintaining law and order. The vehicle when parked at a place where dharnas, rastarokos and other agitations were going on the route camera fixed atop it would rotate 360 degrees while catching the movements of participants and others in the radius of 200 metres. Thus, it would enable the police force to be alert and avert any untoward incident during the agitation. The speed camera would spot people driving vehicles at high speed and inform the same to the police stations ahead in the route. Then, the police would come on to the road and stop the over speeding vehicle. Breath analyser would help take the drunken drivers into custody to avoid accidents. Additional SP (Admn) R. Pratap Reddy and Deputy SP (SB) Prasad Rao were present.
