Over 4 lakh screened under Kanti Velugu in Bhadradri

Scheme was launched in August last year

Around 4.31 lakh persons have, so far, been screened at 2,511 eye check-up camps across the district as part of the State government’s Kanti Velugu since the scheme was launched on August 15 last year.

Of those, 93,066 persons were found to be suffering from short-sightedness and spectacles were distributed to the needy free of cost. A total of 43,546 persons were identified with long-sightedness. Around 17,050 among them were provided spectacles, sources said.

Around 20,098 persons were found to be suffering from various eye issues requiring cataract and other surgeries. As many as 523 of them have been operated upon successfully so far.

Collector Rajat Kumar Saini on Friday visited an eye screening camp at a State-run school near the government area hospital in Kothagudem. He inspected the screening process and interacted with the ophthalmologists as well as patients, and made a thorough review of the implementation of Kanti Velugu envisaging comprehensive eye screening for the entire State.
