Officials told to recover encroached lands near tanks

May 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy asked the authorities not to hesitate and fear in recovering the tank shikam (catchment) lands occupied by land sharks in the last five to 20 years.

The Revenue Department should thoroughly examine the land records before coming to a conclusion as to whether the shikam land was under occupation and with the cooperation of police and other departments, the land in question should be recovered, he suggested while taking part in the crucial District Review Committee meeting here on Saturday.

He warned authorities concerned against the negligence in the implementation of ‘Mission Kakatiya’ works and asked them to complete the sluice, weirs and bund renovation works earlier than the desiltation. There was a great need of filling tanks without allowing even a drop of water going waste in the coming monsoon, he said and suggested to them to plant saplings everywhere.

Mr. Srinivas Reddy felt that at least two soil lifting machines needed to be arranged for loading the soil removed from the tank bed to enable farmers to shift it fast to their fields. The desiltation work should begin from upland to down so that the work could be easier in future, he added.

Saplings

Collector D. Ronald Rose said that sapling rearing was undertaken at 411 nurseries in single, multiple and canal methods for the ‘Haritha Haram’ programme. As many as 74 varieties of plants were being raised to plant them at different places, he said, adding that a total of 25 lakh biodiesel plants were also purchased for the purpose.

With the ‘Mission Kakatiya’ works coming to an end by this month end officials could focus their attention on the success of ‘Haritha Haram’, he said. He asked the officials to prepare proposals for avenue plantations.

Zilla Parishad chairman Dafedar Raju, Member of Parliament, Zaheerabad, B.B. Patil, MLCs V.G. Goud and D. Rajeswar, MLAs Bajireddy Govardhan, E. Ravinder Reddy and Hanmanth Shinde, Mayor Akula Sujatha and Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy also spoke.
