The famous Nagoba Jatara, an annual religious festival of the Mesram clan of Gonds, got to a ritualistic start at Keslapur village in Indervelli mandal of Adilabad district on Monday.
Hundreds of Gonds from different States participated in the event, which saw ceremonies stretching well beyond midnight.
Purification of temple
While the actual puja of the serpent God was performed around midnight, the day started for the Mesram Gonds with their entry into the temple and recital of the legend of Nagoba by Pardhan musicians.
Women purified the temple with sacred water from a local well.
CM’s darbar on Jan. 22
Adilabad MP G. Nagesh visited the temple and held discussions with the Mesram clan elders about the representation which should be made by the community to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, who is slated to visit the jatara and conduct the ‘darbar’ on January 22.
The MP also inspected the site being cleared for the temporary helipad being made.
The place wore a festive look with an amusement park coming up.
Businessmen have also set up shops selling wares used by the Gonds in their day-to-day lives.
