Mudhole tense after stone-pelting incident

October 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - ADILABAD:

Mudhole mandal headquarter in Adilabad district was tense on Saturday following stone throwing between members of two communities during the Durga immersion procession the previous night.

The police, whose swift action defused a possible explosive situation, registered seven cases against persons from either side for the incident which left three policemen and an equal number of civilians with minor injuries.

Trouble started after a minor motorcycle accident involving youths from the two communities in the night. As the Durga procession was passing through the Kalwa Colony and Brahmanwada, stone pelting was witnessed from both the sides, which brought police into action. Five youths were taken into custody and police set up seven pickets at key points, including places of worship.

Nizamabad Special Correspondent writes:

Tense situation prevailed for a few minutes at Gurudwara area in Gajulpet during the Durgamatha Shobha yatra on Saturday night.

However, normalcy returned with the participants in the procession withdrawing their protest, heeding to the suggestion made by the police.

The participants staged a protest for five to ten minutes when the police objected to the playing of DJ music in the procession, leading to the heated argument between the former and the latter. With DSP D. Anand Kumar warning the protestors that they would be videographed and arrested, the agitators withdrew their protest and moved ahead.
