Mission Kakatiya: State to restore tanks in districts

Collector Rahul Bojja has announced that as many as 7,972 tanks would be restored under Mission Kakatiya in Medak district. He said that works for 1,939 tanks would be taken up in first phase.

Addressing a gathering after hoisting national flag at the Parade Grounds here on Monday as part of Republic Day celebrations, Mr. Rahul said that water grid is being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 4,200 crore and every house hold would be supplied with tap water.

Referring to Harita Haram, the Collector has informed that proposals were made to grow 3.52 crore saplings with an estimated cost of about Rs.31.4 lakh. He said that the government has been distributing Rs.31.45 lakh for 2.89 lakh beneficiaries under pensions. The administration has established 106 paddy and 43 maize procurement centres and purchased 4.45 lakh quintals of paddy and 3.15 lakh quintals of maize and paid Rs 62.33 crore and Rs. 41.33 for farmers respectively.

Referring to Arogya Lakshmi Scheme launched on January 1, the Collector said that 1.49 lakh children and 48,000 pregnant were benefiting under the scheme.

Mr. Rahul added that 30 substations with a capacity of 33/11 KV would be taken up at a cost of Rs.45 crore and Rs.15.35 crore was sanctioned for electrification of Sadashivapet, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet and Zaheerabad towns. Students performed cultural programmes.

Karimnagar Special Correspondent adds: Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad unfurled the tricolour at the Police Parade grounds in Karimnagar on Monday, and said that they would take up reconstruction all the 5,939 village tanks in a phased manner in the coming five years period.

In the first phase, the government had decided to revive 1,188 tanks during this year, she said and appealed to the farmers to shift the silt from the tanks to the fields for better harvest of the crop.

She said that the government had decided to develop R&B Roads at a cost of Rs. 1,318 crore, and added that they would take up the road works very soon by calling tenders for the works.

Listing out various welfare programmes initiated by State government, she said that Karimnagar district tops in the loan recovery of the women SHGs in the State with 97.5 per cent.

Students of various educational institutions had captivated the gathering with their colourful cultural programmes on the occasion.

Zilla Parishad chairperson Tula Uma, Superintendent of Police V. Shiva Kumar, Joint Collector Pausami Basu, Assistant Collector Advait Singh, Satavahana University Vice Chancellor K Veera Reddy, DRO Veerabrahmaiah and others were also present.

Khammam Staff Reporter adds: The water grid project envisages provision of safe drinking water to a total of 25.87 lakh people in the district , said Collector K. Ilambarithi.

Addressing the Republic Day main ceremony after hoisting the national flag here on Monday, the Collector said water would be drawn from the Palair balancing reservoir, Godavari and Kinnerasani rivers besides, Wyra reservoir under the mega water grid project.

A total of 4,517 tanks have been identified for restoration under Mission Kakatiya project in the district. A thermal power project of 1080 MW (4x270 MW) capacity will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore in Manuguru mandal.
