The passengers of a Mancherial-bound RTC bus had a close shave early on Sunday as a huge boulder fell on the road just seconds before it reached the spot on the NH 44 Seetagondi ghat road, located about 13 km from Adilabad town. Boulders came off loose from the hillock, which was cut about 7 years ago to lay the four-lane road, owing to overnight rainfall.

According to yoga trainer Hari Prasad Choubey who was travelling in the bus to Indervelli mandal head quarters, the bus rammed into the boulder at about 5. 30 a.m. as it was not visible due to the darkness. The bumper of the bus got damaged and though the passengers did not receive injuries they fell helter skelter due to the impact.

The rainfall brought all the hill streams in the district into spate, some of them causing dislocation of traffic. The Kukda and Kushinepalli streams in Bejjur mandal were overflowing on the road cutting off about a dozen villages.

The villages which remained cut off for a better part of the day are Kukda, Kushinepalli, Somini, Moogavelli, Susmir, Ambagutta, Korchagutta, Nupalli, Koyapalli, Ippalguda, Yerraguda and Rechini. These villages are bounded by Pranahita river on one sode and the streams on the other.

Meanwhile, almost all the irrigation projects in the distirct received inflows ranging between 500 cusecs and 1,000 cusecs. The district recorded an average rainfall of about 9 cm with Vemanpalli registering 20 cm, Bellampalli and Jainad 19 cms, Kasipet 14 cm and Bejjur and Dahegaon about 13 cm.
