Massive fire breaks out at book store

Three-decade-old Zubair Book Stall estimated to have suffered a loss of Rs.2 crore. The owner of the shop, Mohammed Zubair, was said to have suffered a minor heart stroke after learning of the incident and admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

A massive fire that broke out at Zubair Book Stall at Hanamkonda Chowrasta in the wee hours of Sunday gutted thousands of books.

An electrical short circuit was said to be the reason behind the blaze.

Fire-fighters rushed to the spot soon after the fire broke out. Two fire engines and several fire-fighters were engaged in bringing the flames under control for a long time.

According to officials, the loss is estimated to be about Rs.2 crore.

Smoke continued to billow till late in the evening as the books, spread over three floors, were slowly consumed by the flames. Hundreds of people thronged the spot to witness the incident.

Known to be the biggest book store in all Warangal, Zubair Book Stall was established three decades ago, and frequented by the public for kinds of books, old and new.

MLA D Vinay Bhaskar, Urban SP A. Venkateshwara Rao, Hanamkonda DSP Dakshina Murthy and others visited the spot.
