Man jumps in front of running train

A man from East Godavari district allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train here in the small hours of Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as D. Venkata Satyanarayana Raju, 33, of Kesanakurru village in East Godavari district. According to the Government Railway Police sources, Raju’s body was found on the railway tracks near the bypass road bridge in the early hours of the day. The GRP personnel recovered a suicide note from the purse of the deceased. A landline number of Kesanakurru village and the name of the deceased were mentioned in the note. Sources said that Raju had left home a few years ago in pursuit of employment. The GRP police initiated a detailed probe into the incident to ascertain the reason behind his “drastic step.”

The town has witnessed a spurt in suicides particularly on the railway tracks in the last few months.
